Dementia is not a disease... it is a broad term to describe a group of symptoms that impair memory, behaviors and thinking. Dementia symptoms include memory loss, confusion, and personality and behavioral changes which interfere with the person’s social and working life. A number of different illnesses can result in dementia and each has its own features. This presentation will look at the five most common types of dementia under the term "Dementia Umbrella" which are - Alzheimer's, Vascular, Lewy Body, Frontotemporal, and Parkinson’s. We will explore the prevalence of each type of dementia along with the different characteristics of each type.
