Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia. It is estimated that 5.3 million Americans have Alzheimer’s type dementia and that number is growing. Sadly, we don’t know why someone gets this progressive brain disorder or how to stop it. Our best frontline defense currently is understanding the disease itself and learning about resources and interventions that will help families care for their loved one with dementia. This presentation will help you better understand the different types of dementia, the risks for developing Alzheimer’s, how it’s diagnosed, the stages and progression, changes in behavior, resources that may help, caregiver burnout, and hospice care.
