Quality Interaction and Music Therapy with Dementia

  • St. Jane Frances de Chantal Church 38750 Ryan Road Sterling Heights, MI, 48310 United States (map)

Often people don’t know how to interact with a person who has dementia. This session will help you become more comfortable with what is happening to the person and how to maintain connection with them. Socialization is very important and can be enjoyable for all involved. Learn how to connect and share quality time with specific activities for all stages of the disease.

The area of the brain that deals with music is the last to be touched by dementia. Therefore, music can be used to reach people profoundly affected by dementia. This session will teach you how to use music to stimulate memories in your loved one. We will watch clips of dementia patients coming “alive” when presented with their favorite music. We will demonstrate personal music devices that are available for this purpose.
