When a person’s life has been completely wrapped up in caring for a loved one their former self is often left behind. Relationships are lost, routines are abandoned, often careers are put on hold, and the new focus takes over completely. When that new focus is finally taken away, the caregiver can be lost as to what their life will be going forward. There is grief to deal with, but often the former support system is no longer in place. The dementia caregiving journey is often very long and when it ends the world looks very different.
